THP in Assam: 2008-2009

After the 73rd Constitutional Amendment, Assam held Panchayat Elections after 8 years, in 2001. The Hunger Project began work in the state in 2003. The major thrust was on the Capacity Building of the newly Elected Women Representatives.

The recent Panchayat elections in Assam concluded in January 2008.In the first year after the elections, the focus has been on capacity building of newly elected women representatives. THP has been working with three partners in Assam -Gramya Vikas Manch (GVM), North East Social Trust (NEST), District Community Development Program (DCDP) across 7 districts of Assam – Jorhat, Golaghat, lakhimpur, Nalbari, Kamprup, Barpeta and Sonitpur.
