Partnering With the Media
Influencing Public Opinion is also a key strategy of The Hunger Project. Understanding the need for the development of a political and public will to facilitate conditions which will truly create an environment for transformative change at the grassroots, The Hunger Project has actively engaged with the media and other stakeholders.
THP engages with the media, significant leaders in the corporate sector and civil society organisations to change negative mindsets regarding women leaders in Panchayats. The skepticism regarding women Panchayat leaders can only be broken when the media plays a supportive role and highlights their struggles and achievements for the development of their villages.
To this end, The Hunger Project also awards the Sarojini Naidu Prize annually. The Prize carries a cash award of Rupees Two Lakhs to journalists in the print media as recognition of best reporting on women and Panchayati Raj in the print media in Hindi, English and Other Indian Language categories.
